Delete1. What most excties me the most is how the Byron and Bumphead think they are so cool when they really aren't
DeleteOne reading strategy that I use every time I read is ANNOTATING. Annotating is when you write down your feelings or thoughts about what you are reading. Annotating includes asking a question, expressing a reaction, and connecting it to your life.
ReplyDeleteI hope others will also use this strategy! Thank you for sharing, Haley!
DeleteI want to learn about the bomb that changed Kenny's life
ReplyDelete3.
ReplyDeleteQ: What one reading strategy can you share with your classmates?

Saumini, you are right on target for tomorrow! I encourage all students to use context clues to help with vocabulary! :)
DeleteI am exited to read this novel because i want to see what changed his life.
ReplyDeleteYou will be surprised! :)
Delete3.Q: What one reading strategy can you share with your classmates?
ReplyDeleteA: One reading strategy i use is ANNOTATING. I like to use annotating because it helps take my thoughts out of my mind and what questions I'd like to ask and to be answered. I also like annotating because it helps me relate the story and connect back to my everyday life. Furthermore, It helps with expressing an emotion and/or reaction.
Jason: One thing I am excited about reading this is book is that I want to see what they did after the bombing happened and what happened to them.

DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteA reading skill I use is Pause and Predict which is when you stop and predict what will happen next. I usually do this when I feel the climax is the next page so that I have my own thought on what will happen next!
ReplyDeletePlease share this reading strategy in class! Thank you for sharing!
DeleteMrs. Palermo i was wondering after reading today whether Kenny did not really trust his brother and that after By had pulled a prank on him that he decided not to care. Really this proves that Kenny also has a bad side cause when someone is in need whether they just pranked you you must help under every circumstance. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteNalan, this is a difficult choice that people have to make. We must always try to help others when it is safe to do and communicate our feelings to other person. As for Kenny, let's consider how he felt at that moment and why he made that decision. Please be sure to write down the page number this instance occurred so we can discuss this decision as a whole class. Your question can produce a great discussion.
DeleteMy cousin is nice at home but is a total delinquent when he gets to school.

ReplyDeleteCommunity Connection Question:
Think about how having empathy and treating others kindly often makes us feel the best. Now, think of how acts of compassion can better our community.
We notice in chapter 4 that several of the characters cannot afford proper clothing for the winter. This is very true for many people in our country.
- Do you feel a responsibility to treat the needy with compassion?
- What are some ways that communities can help those who are unable to afford clothing and food?
Joshua Oh: Communities can open homeless shelters to feed and take care of poor people. Many communities open up charity donations for canned foods and clothing. People can also do a fundraiser to buy food, clothes and supplies for the needy.
DeleteI think we should have responsibility's for the needy. We can help with food drives and clothing drives. This way we can make our community a better place.
DeleteThere are many ways in which the community can help the environment. One way is to start an organization where you can donate old cloths that don't fit anymore or canned food. Also you can help at a homeless shelter or even a soup kitchen.
DeleteZack (Mrs. P moved your response to the REPLY because you put your response as a comment) --They can put together a place were there are prices that are lower for people that can not afford. Or you can put our stuff that you don't use in a toy or cloth drive and they can take it to kids and adults who don't have enough money for fancy stuff.
DeleteQ: What are some ways that communities can help those who are unable to afford clothing and food?
DeleteA: Communities can help those in need in many different ways! For instance, our school RTMS right now is doing a "Don't be greedy, help the need." This program is going to give toys and other things to the poor. Also, our local stores can lower prices of our goods. Another way we can help the needy is by opening soup kitchens. Soup kitchens can help poor people with having a meal 3 times a day. Last but not least, we can help the needy people just at home! We can gather lightly used products and give the to the not as wealthy people.
Jason- Communities can help those people who can't buy stuff by having food drives 4 times a year and donate clothes to the communities to give out. This way, the poor people can have food and clothing. They will stay warm and not starve.
Deletepeople make fund raisers for a reason to give to the poor.there are many places where fund raisers are churches, schools, and many more. There should be a FREE GROCERY MARKET PLACE withn unlimited food( like snaks not high quality food) supported from all over the world to END WORLD HUNGER!!
DeleteI thing that communities should give wellfair or foodstamps to people they obviously see are suffering and losing their house just to be like "Here ya go,this should last you through the month." or something like that.
DeleteI do fell responsible because sometimes I feel like kids take things for granted. So I feel like you should help the person so that maybe you could have the same things that you do. Some ways to do that is to maybe help at a homeless shelter or just give homeless people money
DeleteWill M: Some communities and schools do donation drives or put up charities. When ever my family sees one of thoes we always dontate a little bit.Others set up food drives to feed people who cant afford food.
DeleteI do feel responsible because kids don't really know how hard it is to get the money their parents make. Kids will take things for granted because they don't understand how hard their parents work for that money.I think some ways to help is to build more homeless shelters and feed them and let them live there for free. your not making any money but you are helping people live until they get a job and their own houuse. Another way to help is to give them ideas of their own personal job and how they can make money off of doing that job. One more thing. if you see a homeless person on the street help them out and hand them a dollar or two soy uo can just help them just a little more.
DeleteI forgot to add this Mrs. P but thankyou will for saying that. Yes you should also set up food drives. It will help people in need of food and water and even clothes. So that's another way you can help the homeless
DeleteKailah: I dislike seeing people without the proper types of clothing. There are several ways the community could help with these types of problems. Atleast every month, they could set up food services. It could be totally free and the food could be fresh and delicious! As for clothes, the community could set up a program. This would be very helpful for those who don't have correct clothes for the winter.
Deletethey could have clothes, food and toy drives a few times a year.
DeleteYes baecause many families can't provide for their family. So it is our job to help them so that they could have clothes, food,or other things. So I think it is our job as a country to give them things during food drives, toy drives or clothes drives. And if everyone in the country gives 1 food, toys, ext we could have one amazing world.
DeleteRasa: Communities can help those who are unable to afford clothing and food by giving them money, Setting up food and toy drives,by giving them clothes and places to live, and lowering the prices of food.
DeleteThere are many people who needs help in money problems. So, I think it is responsibility of people who can get stuff easily to help them. People should donate stuff more, create homeless shelter and free food programs to create better environment.
DeleteConner A.:Yes I think we should care about and help the people that dont have a very good life. More people should think this way because it is very hard for them to get food and clothing. Every body deserves to have a good and joyfull life you wont forget.
DeleteMaddie Q2:I think there are many ways that we can help the needy in our community. We can open food drive centers, and i think the Goodwill should have it own grocery stores. In conclusion I think there are many ways to help our community and the needy.
DeleteI think we should help the needy for our community by starting a cloths, canned food drive, and a toy drive. So I think that there are many ways that we can help the poor.
DeleteThe Community could help out those in need by starting different ways to make a donation. Like one way would to start a toy drive and food drive to give to the poor. They can also make a homeless shelter for people that can no afford it. Everyone deservers to have a good life and be joyful cause they do have hope.
DeleteI think it is our responsibility to help the needy because they don't has as much as us. We can help our community by opening soup kitchen. Helping the needy is important to not just them, but to others too.
DeleteErin S- I would help the needy but there are so many ways to help the poor and the community. I would do a toy drive, shoe drive and maybe you can donate clothes that we don't wear as much.
DeleteThe Community can do many things to help the needy. One way is that we can put posters and go door to door asking people to help or donate for the needy. Another way is that we can make fundraisers and like festivals to raise money and get cloths for the needy.
DeleteJacob E- I think that it is very true that some people cannot afford food and we could do something about it. In my old school we used to have a fundraiser and sometimes we would raise $70,000 like we did last year. This money all went to people with TB to get their medicine. Our community can help by participating in fundraisers and charities.
DeleteMiles: I would give clothes to the needy by donating.
DeletePeople in the community could donate food and clothes to charity.
People could do a fundraiser for the needy.
Yes for people that can't afford food and clothes people should help them.
DeletePeople can help them by having food drives. People can donate clothes to charities.
You can give things you don't need to charity.
DeleteThe people who can't afford food, then they can fill out an application and send it to the government.
you can have food drive.
I think that people who don't have money to get clothes we should help them. One way is by doing and cloths drop off. So people who don't need there old clothes should give them to people.
DeleteFaith Kang- Sometimes I do feel gulity when I see homeless people in the streets. I feel that way because I like I could do something to help or do about it. A few ways we could help the unfortunate is staring a program to help them and run evemts to help them earn money for food and clothes if they had some sort of talent.
Deletesidd:People make communities for the poor becuase the poor cant afford
Deletefood or clothes. My old school participated in a fundraiser for cancer.
I think people should make and open charities and fundraise to help the poor.
My suggestion is to lower the prices on food and give food to the poor to help the people in need.
ReplyDeleteHi Armani, can you develop your reply? Expand your response by adding two more sentences of details (the directions say a minimum of 3 sentences). Also, be sure to REPLY, not make a new comment. :) PS-I like your suggestion about lowering food prices and giving food to the poor!
Deletecommunities can help those in need by creating food drives or donations for the needy.they can also provide cloths and shelter.other people can give fun stuff like candy or toys or create a toy drive so the poor people wont be board.
ReplyDeleteI think lots of people should give toys, books, clothes and other things. They should do that so the kids or adults will like them and the kids will have lots of fun and from books, kids could get to learn something so people should do that.
DeleteI feel a responsibility to treat the needy by donating clothes where people can give them to the needy.
DeleteCommunities can help those who are unable to afford clothes and food by doing food drives and a donation center to donate the clothes. The food drives would help because if you don't have food to eat you could starve. The donation center would help because some people don't have clothes if you didn't have clothes you would feel bad.
DeleteSince it's almost x-mas, people should really be worrying about the people who don't have a lot of things. Number one, I think families who have a lot should give educational books etc to people who don't have a lot. Number two, the people who live in America should think ahead of time about getting into college. Number three, if you don't want to pay for college then you should play a sport. Number four, there would be people on the street if only they went to college or finished high school ( to be honest ). If only those people would of thought ahead they would have jobs now or be in college to get their degree. It would only help the community if they went back to school to get a good job or people wanted to give them guidance in life so they can keep going on with their life.
DeleteSome ways others can help out are creating organizations to help the needy like toy drive and such. They can also donate old clothes that you dont need and/or are to small for you.
DeleteMaking people feel happy makes me feel compassionate because I am use to doing. My dad is a supporter of a poor shelter in India and every year my B-Day money goes to that shelter.
ReplyDeleteCould not put it as a reply Mrs. Palermo
