Why is Lucy, the youngest child, the first to enter Narnia, and Edmund, the next youngest, the second to enter? Is this a coincidence, or is Lewis making a point about the ability of younger children to be more open-minded?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think C.S. Lewis is making a point on how younger children are more open-minded. Smaller children haven't seem the world as much as older children. They wonder what's this and what's that. In my life usually younger kids find stuff out of NOWHERE!

      Delete
    2. C.S. Lewis was trying to make a point because when the four children went into the room with nothing inside ,but the wardrobe they just left. Lucy on the other hand wanted to see what was inside so she stayed behind. This is how Lucy found Narnia and meet the faun. On the other hand Edmund went in the wardrobe because he wanted to tease Lucy about her "country".

      Delete
    3. I think that C.S.Lewis did this on purpose. I believe this because Lucy out of the four wanted to check out the wardrobe. It shows that she is more curious or inquisitive then the others. By doing this, Lucy was the first to explore Narnia.

      Delete
    4. Lauren- Lucy was the first one to find Narnia because when the kids were exploring the house Lucy saw the wardrobe and wanted to open it, but the older kids didn't want to, but Lucy did it anyway. Edmund finds Narnia next when they are playing hide-n-seek and Edmund knows where Lucy is going to hide, so he goes into the wardrobe and sees Narnia. I think that Lewis is making a point about younger children because he tells us that Lucy keeps trying to open the wardrobe and finds a surprise inside. Also, younger children have a bigger imagination and think about/wonder about what is inside.

      Delete
    5. This comment has been removed by the author.

    6. I think C.S. Lewis was trying to explain that younger kids are more innocent than older kids because the believe differently. Lucy told the truth about the wardrobe and wanted to tell everyone about it so they could all come. Edward went to the wardrobe because he wanted to show that there really was no Narnia. When he was proven wrong, he decided to keep it a secret and not tell anyone. This shown me that little kids are more innocent.

      Delete
    7. My thought is that C.S. Lewis is trying to make a point in some way the reader can understand. C.S. Lewis Is trying to make a point saying that the youngest child (Lucy) goes and shows that the little ones are the ones with a lot truth in them.Lucy than eventually tells ,but everyone did not believe anything she said one they went inside the wardrobe. The quote that supports my thought is"A jolly good hoax,Lu,"he said. Note:The one who said this quote is Peter.

      Delete
    8. Sruti (Mrs. P moved your post to reply to my message and not have it be a new comment :))---I think C.S Lewis is trying to make a point. Young kids often tend to be more curious then elders. It was Lucy who wondered off and found the wardrobe. Also younger kids usually have a bigger imagination, if Lucy didn't think about what amazing things could be farther in the wardrobe she would have never found Narnia

      Delete
    9. I myself don't believe in coincidences especially in a story. Everything in a book has a purpose I believe he was making a point. If my little sister (I don't have one just hypothetically) came up to me and said there was a world in the wardrobe I wouldn't believe her! If I was younger I would younger kids are more open minded I think.

      Delete
    10. I think C.S. Lewis is trying to make a point for both ends of the question. I agree that young children do have a bigger imagination than older children and tend to make up most thing with that great imagination of theirs. I also agree that-that was a coincidence because when Lucy was playing hide-and-go-seek with the others she went into the room with the wardrobe {that was tectonically off limits} and since little children have big imaginations and are very curious she went in and found Narnia. Now I think differently about Edmund and Narnia. I think Edmund got to Narnia on coincidence because Edmund had no imagination because at a point in the beginning of the book Edmund was teasing Lucy like: "Why don't you go look in the cabnits or drawers. You may find another world there too." or something like that. Edmund got in by trying to find Lucy. To me C.S. Lewis made his point pretty well that this whole thing was not just based on imagination but on chance too.

      Delete
    11. I think C.S Lewis was trying to make a point. Many people think younger children are imagining everything and not much they say is true. Lucy's siblings did not believe her story about Naria, but she wasn't lying. Younger kids often are more curious than older ones, so Lucy staying behind and going into the wardrobe makes a point that younger kids can be more open-minded or curious. While exploring the house the four children found a boring room room with a wardrobe and left, but Lucy stayed and looked through the wardrobe where she found Narnia.

      Delete
    12. I think the youngest coming in first is showing young children are adventerous and creative. It is also showing a dare devil side to Lucy and Edmund. The reason I think that is because they both have entered a new world that no one ever knew was there, and they had no fear.

      Delete
    13. C.S Lewis is trying to tell us in my point of view is that the youngest children are always looking for an adventure. They are always trying to be different from her older siblings.Lucy goes in fisrt to say that just because kids are younger doesnt mean that they are not intellegent.

      Delete
    14. I think Lewis is making a point that younger children are more open-minded. The younger ones are always more curious.

    15. I think Lewis is making a point that younger children are more open-minded. The younger ones are always more curious.

      Delete
    17. I think Lewis is making a point that younger children are more open-minded. The younger ones are always more curious.

      Delete
    18. I think C.S Lewis is trying to make a point. I think this because they are more curious and what to see it for themselves. The older ones just don't believe it. If I were Lucy or Edmund I would to the same thing they did in the book.

      Delete
    19. I think C.S Lewis is making a good point. The younger one's tend to find things more easily than the elders. In the book C.W wants to tell the readers that young kids wants to find more adventures.

      Delete
    20. I think that it was not a coincidence when Lucy entered Narnia before Edmund. C.S Lewis is trying to prove that the younger you are the more curious you will be. What are the chances that when you are a teenager you will go looking through a wardrobe. This information was found on pages 7 and 8

      Delete
    21. I think that lucy was the first to go in becuase there is a connection with narnia maybe younger people can see narnia before others. The author Lewis could be making a point by that younger children have more creativity and imagination than older people. also in the book Lucy was instrridid in the wordrobe and went inside and saw snow, so i think that Lucy and Edmund might have been younger andmore creativity and that they have much moreigination than Susan and Peter.

      Delete
    22. I think that Lewis is trying to make a point that Lucy entered the land of Narnia before Edmund did because he's probably trying to say that younger children are more curious and adventurous than older children are.

      Delete
    23. I think that Lewis is trying to make a point that littler kids are more curious abut new things such as what's in the the new place that they are new to like when newly adopted pet and look around the house.

      Delete
    24. I think that Lewis is trying to make a point because when kids are young they often tend to use their imagination a lot and go on adventures. The author could be saying that a lot of younger kids have more fun and imagination than others. If I was Lucy or Edmund I would most likely do the same thing!

      Delete
    25. I think Lucy is the first one to go in because she is the youngest and the most curious. Edmund also is the second youngest and goes into Narnia second. I think young people are open-minded because they are always curious about things.

      Delete
    26. Isha- I believe the author is trying to state a statement. I think its showing that no matter your age you have lots of creativity and potential. The book states that the youngest to the oldest open the wardrobe and find Narnia. This tell what the authors perspective is.

      Delete
    27. I think that the author is trying to make a point that younger children tend to be more curious as well open-minded than their elders. So in this case, when the siblings were in the empty room together with nothing but the wardrobe in it, nobody but Lucy saw it interesting. So with little kids when nothing seems unusual, it is interesting and when everything is interesting, nothing is to them. So I believe that the youngest to oldest will find the wardrobe!!!

      Delete
    28. I think Lucy is the first one to go into Narnia because ther author was trying to keep the story moving. If Edmund was the first person to go into Narnia then when he meet Mr. Tumnus and he said that he was to capture him, then Edmund would just try to get out of there as soon as possible. Then he would not tell the other siblings about Narnia. But with Lucy going into Narnia first she told everyone and wanted to help Mr.Tumnus.

      Delete
    29. I think that younger children are more open- minded because, When the children were looking around the house and they found the empty room with the wardrobe in it Lucy thought that it would be interesting to see if the wardrobe was open. rIPLEY jOHNSON

      Delete
    30. Brady

I think that the aurther is trying to make a point and say that yonger kids can be more open minded. In the book the kids were just wondering around and then lucys happens to find a wardrobe and goes in it. And I use this to prove my point I mean that if you were a adult would you go inside a wardrobe for no good reason. And kids these bay like to go out and exploer the world and want to try new things. So I think that the aurth is trying to say that kidds are more opened minded

      Delete
    31. I think that Lewis was trying to convey that younger children are more open minded and want to explore more. Remember when Lucy came back from her first trip to Narnia and told her siblings about it but no one believed her but Edmund still looked in the wardrobe because he questioned that she might be right unlike the others that just thought she was tricking them. Also that younger children are more open minded because Edmund thought of all the options before making a conclusion. There are more scenarios that the younger children are more open minded like when Edmund talked about the robin and how it might be bad.

      Delete
    32. I think Lewis is trying to make a point because I think younger kids want to explore and are more curious and also Narnia is a place that younger kids dream about.

      Delete
    33. I think the author has a point. when you get older you start to lose all of the creativity you have but the younger you are the more imagination you have. So i think Lucy and Edmund were the first 2 because they believed in Narnia more then peter and Susan

      Delete
  15. I think that younger children are more open minded and curious. I think Lucy was wondering around the house and when she saw Narnia, she went on to see what mystery lied in the back of the wardrobe. Edmund, on the other hand, just went in to find Lucy instead of what awaited him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lucy was probally the first child and the youngest child because most younger children have the tendancey to be more curious and openminded. When all of the four children were playing hide and seek Lucy found the wardrobe and found it intresting.
    -Kiley

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think that C.S Lewis is trying to say that children are far more adventerous than older people. I also think that C.S Lewis is trying to say that children belive what they see in in life. Befor Edmund entered he did'nt belive lucy that narnia exisits but I think that Edmund still doesn't belive narnis exists because when Lucy and Edmund got out, Edmund on pg.48 he says "yes, lucy and I have been pretending/playing games about her country in the wardrobe."
